Quick and Easy Solutions for Removing Tree Sap on Clothes

The sap from trees can leave a stubborn stain on clothing, which is frustrating. If you have sap on your clothing because you brushed up against a tree, or you were out in the wilderness and rubbed your skin into a tree’s sticky sap, then this article is for you to know how to get tree sap out of clothes.

1. The Method of Freezing:

Materials needed:

The plastic bag
Ice cubes

Steps:

Placing the garment in a bag facing the stain, place it with the sap stained side up.
The bag should be filled with ice and sealed.
The bag should be placed in the freezer until it is frozen.
Take the clothing out of the freezer. Gently scrape away the frozen sap with the edge or butter knife.
After the sap has mostly been removed, you can wash your clothes as per usual.

2. The Rubbing Alcohol

Materials needed:

Isopropyl (Rubbing alcohol)

Steps:

Under the affected area, use a clean paper towel or cloth to stop the sap spreading.
Moisten the clean cloth using rubbing alcohol.
Use the cloth soaked in alcohol to gently wipe the sap stain, moving from the edge toward the centre.
Keep blotting the fabric until sap starts to disintegrate and comes off.

3. Hand Sanitizer

Materials needed:

Hand sanitizers (with high alcohol contents)

Steps:

Use a little hand sanitizer on the stain.
Use a soft cloth or your fingertips to gently rub away the stain.

Remove the stain using a dry, clean paper towel or cloth.
Launder the garments as you normally would.

4. WD-40:

Materials needed:

WD-40 Spray Lubricant

Steps:

Spray a tiny amount of WD-40 onto the sap stain.
It is best to let it rest for a couple of minutes.
Gently rub with a cloth, or an older toothbrush.
Then, rinse it with cold water.
Wash the garments as you normally would.

5. Pine Solvent

Materials needed:

Pine oil-based cleaner (Pine Solvent)

Steps:

Apply a tiny amount of pine-solvent to the sap stain.
Rub gently the area that is stained with a soft, clean cloth.
Then, rinse it with cold water.

6. Commercial Stain Removal:

Commercial stain removers have been developed to combat tree sap stains. The products can be found in most supermarkets. To get the best result, read the product label.
